Wedding gifts: 5 ideas if you don't want to give money

Many guests would rather give something personal than money as a wedding gift. Experiences go down especially well: an after wedding shoot, a lovingly designed voucher book, a dinner with a chauffeur service or a short trip together. If you give your gift before the wedding, a Guest Wall or a gift voucher for one brings double the joy.

What makes a good wedding gift?

Many couples ask for money, and that's absolutely fine. But many guests would rather give something more personal than an envelope. These four things make the difference:

Personal. It shows that you really know the couple.
An experience, not a thing.Time together lasts longer than the fifth toaster.
Give together.Several guests chip in, so it becomes something big.
It stays.A memory you'll still be talking about for years.

5 wedding gifts if you don't want to give money

1. After wedding shoot

On the wedding day itself, there is often only half an hour for couple portraits. A gift voucher for an after wedding shoot gives them time: putting on the dress and suit one more time, a favourite place, a great photographer and no schedule to keep. The photos often turn out to be the most beautiful of the whole wedding.

2. Voucher book

A lovingly designed book of vouchers, mixing big and small. Big experiences like a spa day or a short trip, for which you team up with other guests, and small, personal gestures: “I'll clean your kitchen after the party”, “I'll cook your favourite meal” or “We'll buy you your first Christmas tree together”. A particularly lovely idea is one voucher for every month of the first year of marriage, matched to the season: a picnic in spring, an evening by the lake in summer, pumpkin soup at your place in autumn and the Christmas tree in December. That way, your gift accompanies the couple for a whole year.

Tip: The better you know the couple, the more personal the small vouchers can be. Mix big experiences and small gestures, that's what makes the book so special.

3. Dinner with a chauffeur service

You book a table at a special restaurant and act as the chauffeur yourselves: you pick the couple up at home, drive them there and bring them back later. That way, they can both relax and enjoy a toast, and a restaurant voucher becomes an evening you are personally part of, even if you aren't sitting at the table.

Tip: Make the drive a little occasion: a freshly cleaned car, a few flowers on the back seat and the couple's favourite music.

4. Time together: spa or short trip

After months of planning, nothing feels as good as a weekend without any wedding talk. A spa hotel, a cabin in the mountains or a city break: chip in with friends or family, and lots of small amounts add up to a really wonderful experience.

5. Guest Wall or gift voucher

Many wedding gifts look the same, don't match the couple, or end up in the closet after unpacking. One Guest Wall It's different: It's personalized, with a name and date if desired, and at the celebration, each guest designs their own plate. After that, it's hung at the couple's home as a reminder to all who were there. It's best to give it before the wedding, perhaps at the engagement or bachelor party, so the couple can use it on the big day. If you prefer to leave the color and size to the couple, give them a gift that includes both. Guest Wall voucher.

Frequently asked questions

What can you give as a wedding gift if you don't want to give money?

Experiences and personal gifts: an after wedding shoot, a voucher book, a dinner with a chauffeur service, a short trip together or a keepsake such as a Guest Wall.

Can you give a wedding gift together?

Yes, bigger gifts like a spa weekend or a short trip are often given jointly by groups of friends or families.

When should you give a Guest Wall?

Before the wedding, for example for the engagement or the hen or stag party, so the couple can use it on the big day. A gift voucher works well as an alternative.

Isn't a voucher book a bit too little?

Not if it's made with love. The mix of big experiences and small, personal gestures makes it a gift that is remembered for a long time.

What do you give to a couple who already has everything?

Something that only exists once: a memory of the day itself. All the guests create a guest wall together; afterwards, the couple hangs it up at home.

Can we donate a guest wall as a group of friends?

Yes, that's actually very popular. You put together a budget, and the couple gets a high-quality gift that contributed to the entire wedding in the end.
